Marcus Webb: About the Reviewer
Marcus Webb runs Laser Engraver Expert. He's a hobbyist and maker who researches laser engravers from a buyer's perspective: spec comparisons, community data, and honest personal use observations.
About Marcus Webb
I’m a hobbyist and maker based in Denver, Colorado. I got into laser engraving through DIY and personal craft projects, the same way most people reading this site did.
I write the kind of comparisons I’d want to read before spending several hundred dollars: ones that go past the marketing copy, factor in what real owners say after weeks of use, and give an honest picture of what a machine is actually like to live with.
How I Research
Spec comparisons that hold up. I pull specs directly from manufacturer listings, compare them across product lines, and flag where the published numbers are inconsistent or misleading. Side-by-side comparisons on this site are sourced and verifiable.
Real owner feedback, not just launch reviews. Before writing about any machine, I go through r/lasercutting, owner forums, and detailed Amazon reviews to understand what people report after genuine sustained use, not just at unboxing. Patterns in community feedback carry real weight in my assessments.
Personal use observations. For machines I’ve owned and used in my own projects, I include direct observations on setup, software, and real-world output. The perspective here is a hobbyist’s perspective: what matters when you’re actually using the machine, not just evaluating it.

Editorial Independence
Affiliate commissions help cover the cost of running this site. They have no influence on what I recommend. I write what I’d tell a friend who asked which machine to buy, and I update it when better information comes in.
